State protection

The State is obliged to protect your human right to a private and family life. It should not interfere with your decision and allow you to create and maintain a relationship with your family members and not interfere with your choices and decisions relating to them.

At the same time, the State may have a positive obligation to adopt specific measures to allow you to enjoy your private and family life, such as marriage and adoption procedures. The Latvian Constitution (Satversme) also obliges the State to provide a minimum level of social support for families, including persons or children with a disability and their families.
